Laboratory study on single-fluid process water glass as water-plugging profile-control agent

  • Aiming at the issue of high injection pressure and intolerance to shear for high polymer in high temperature low permeability reservoir, a laboratory study was carried out about single-fluid process water glass. After adding curing agent solution into water glass solution, a series of performance tests were conducted including viscosity-temperature relationship, gelation time, thermal stability, acid and alkaline resistance and plugging rate. The results demonstrate that this water-plugging profile-control agent is suitable for large dose deep treatment due to high plugging rate, low viscosity and long gelation time. Meanwhile it plays a double-effect role of profile-control and oil-wash due to good wash oil character before curing. Good compatibility with filler makes it suitable for not only profile-control in low or middle permeability reservoir but also high permeability zone and big channel plugging. In addition, the agent is also suitable for injection profile control in high temperature low permeability water injection zone due to low cost, safety and convenient operation.
