Optimal design and field application of PDC bit in Kekeya Block

  • Kekeya block is one of the Turpan-Hami Oilfield’s major development blocks, developed in 2009. The block’s main geological features are high-intensity, high-abrasivity, extensive interlaying and a large angle. A block with these features is rare in China. Due to these extreme geological conditions, we designed a individual drilling bit, ?215.9 mm 7 knife-wing M433 PDC bit, with crown shape of shallow cone, spiral knife-wing, high-density distribution of teeth, suitable back rake angles (10~15°) and hydraulic structure(high flexible and asymmetrical arrangement for nozzles and deep waterway). During the drilling process of Ke Well 19-10, because the M433 PDC bit is consistent with the extreme geological conditions of the Kekeya block, it can shorten the drilling cycle, improve AROP 157% and reduce complex time efficiency. The design is useful to achieve relatively satisfactory results, to reduce drilling costs and to increase overall economic efficiency.
