Drilling practice in UAQ offshore gas field

  • UAQ offshore gas field was developed on 3 re-entry wells. To overcome the difficulties of mudline tie-back on condition of jacket misalignment, gas leak, the penetration of sloughing shale formation Nahr Umr, drilling short radius horizontal well at the depth of 4800m, and sour gas field completion, some measures were taken, such as cutting harmful guiding holes, tieback tool optimization, annular cement squeezing to block gas leakage, assorted Nahr Umr shale drilling technique, assorted short radius horizontal well drilling technique, and assorted sour gas field completion technique. By the measures above, the three wells was successful in mudline tieback, gas leakage control, and penetrating Nahr Umr shale formation. The three short radius horizontal wells were kicked off by 28.5 degree per 30m, and completed safe and efficiently with high production of 93×104 m3/d per well.
