KWQ-216 surface controlled downhole variable diameter stabilizer

  • Surface controlled downhole variable diameter stabilizers could effectively control or adjust well trajectory. They have been applied overseas on a large scale due to its low cost and good control effects, while domestically some cases have also been successfully applied, but far from universal. The composition and working principle of the KWQ-216 stabilizer are introduced. The safety analysis has been carried out for the failure-prone parts of KWQ -216 stabilizer, such as the shell and spring seat pin, by CAE, which draws that the safety of the tool is higher. The BHA for the stabilizer is described in the paper. The tool is controlled by on-off pump on the ground, and is locked by mechanical means downhole, making diameter adjusting accurate, reliable, and simple to operate. The scientific use of the stabilizer could economically and accurately control the deviation angle and azimuth, which improves wellbore quality, and shortens the drilling cycle.
