A real-time steering system of horizontal well base on seismic data

  • Traditional geosteering methods use only the real-time geological data, ignoring the seismic data obtained before drilling. This paper presents and implements a real-time steering system of horizontal wells base don seismic data, which runs on Windows OS. This system acquires, processes, transmits the LWD / MWD data synchronously, and draws the hole trajectory, logging curve, electrical log curve onto the seismic section to achieve the real-time drilling simulation in seismic data volume. These seismic sections with real-time curve give geophysical information around the drill to engineers to decide the next step of drilling. This steering mode applies geophysical information contained in seismic data innovatively, and it makes up for lack of geosteering. This steering method has been used in the drilling of horizontal wells, and it has improved the drilling efficiency.
