Drilling technology for fractured volcanic rocks in Ludong area, Junggar Basin

  • Drilling in Ludong Area taking Carboniferous volcanic rocks as the target has experienced nearly 20 years. Exploration well drilling is met with some technical difficulties, such as complex regional formation pressure and severe lost circulation, high strength of rock and low drilling speed in Permian and Carboniferous systems, and great difficulty in reservoir protection. In this respect, starting from analysis of geological data, fundamental research and local parametric statistics, combined with lab experiment and simulation data, integrated with mature drilling and completion technologies both home and abroad, formation pressure evaluation and casing program optimization are carried out actively. New technology and new materials for leak protection and sealing are used, field experiment on PDC bit and underbalanced drilling technology is conducted. Corresponding volcanic reservoir protection techniques and cementing technology for formations with low pressure and easy lost circulation are formulated. Through multiple research and field test, favorable drilling results are obtained, which provides technical support for exploration and development of fractured volcanic reservoir in Ludong Area.
