Plugging property of mobile gel and its effect on porous flow

  • Mobile gels are important to stabilize oil production and control water cut in oilfields. The plugging property of mobile gels and its effect on porous flow are of great significance to the high-efficiency development of oilfields. So the conventional core displacement process is used for the experiment of the effect of mobile gels on the plugging of core and the single-phase oil and gas flow. The experimental results show that the plugging ratio of the mobile gels is more than 90% for the core with the permeability lower than 2200×10-3 μm2. The single-phase porous flow plugged by mobile gels is nonlinear, the starting pressure of oil is lower than that of water, and the permeability of oil is higher than that of water. The two-phase porous flow plugged by mobile gels is changed as well, i.e., the range of oil and water flow gets smaller simultaneously, the permeability of oil and water gets lower, the permeability recovery of oil is higher than that of water. Both porous flow experiments show that the gels present higher plugging capacity to water than to oil, and may be used to stabilize oil production and controll water cut.
