Application of stratified stress method in massive hydraulic fracturing design

  • The implementation of hydraulic fracturing in low permeability and thin interbed reservoir is often confronted with difficult control of the fracture height, excessive leak-off and poor fracturing effect. Considering the unique geological features of low permeability and thin interbed reservoir, the conventional logging data are used to obtain successive profiles of stresses and fractures based on the 3-D stratified stress method in this paper. How stresses and intrinsic fractures affect the hydraulic fracturing is investigated. It is found that they have a direct control of height, length and width of the induced fractures. Finally a method of massive hydraulic fracturing (MHF) design in low permeability and thin interbed reservoir highlighting the effect of the reservoir stresses and fractures is proposed. A fracturing design is carried out using the actual data of C1 well in Shengli Oilfield, and preferable results are obtained.
