A method for horizontal well production prediction with water control completion considering gravel packing

  • In recent years, the water control method of gravel packing in the annulus between horizontal well tubing and borehole has been widely used in bottom water reservoirs, while the accurate production prediction method has not been determined yet. In order to solve this problem, the interrelationships of fluid flow among different spatial dimensions, such as bottom water reservoir, gravel-packed layer, and water control device, are analyzed from the difference between macro and micro flows, and the three dimensional flow models are coupled together using the method of "matrix edging" based on the numerical simulation model of oil-water two-phase. And thus, a method for gravel packed horizontal well production prediction with water control completions is proposed, with an accuracy of 9.17% higher than the conventional method. The results show that the new method can realize the quantitative solution of the fluid flow among the reservoir, gravel-packed layer and water control device, and more directly reflect the influence of fluid flow in different spatial dimensions on the effect of water control, which provides an effective means for the production prediction of horizontal wells with the water control completion in bottom water reservoirs considering the gravel packing.
