Integrated technology of pre-completion sand control and screen top up cementing

  • The reservoirs in LH and other blocks of Bayan Oilfield suffer from severe sand production, poor wellbore stability, high wellbore enlargement rate, secondary corrosive media, and high compression strength of the screen tube by local gypsum. The existing screen top up cementing technology cannot meet the long-term development needs of the oilfield. Therefore, an integrated technology combining pre-completion sand control and screen top up cementing was studied. By selecting high-performance plasma slotted screen tubes and matching them with external packers, pre-completion sand control and plugging-off of problem reservoir intervals with poor stability could be achieved. The optimized overlapping metal steel strip skeleton structure has been improved with a high expansion ratio packer protective sleeve, which can achieve effective plugging-off at a wellbore expansion rate of 15%. Tungsten carbide coating is applied to the differential pressure stage collar to improve its erosion resistance and ensure reliable closure of the stage collar. The field application in three wells shows that the combined job of pre-completion sand control and well cementing is effective in plugging loose sandstone and local mudstone in the reservoir, without obvious sand production, collapse or screen tube failure. The sealing effect of the expanded well section is reliable, and there is no cement slurry channeling. Sealing failure does not occur after the stage collar is closed. This integrated technology effectively solves the challenges in block cementing and sand control.
