Necessity and preliminary practice of carbon storage science and engineering major in colleges under the dual carbon goals

  • As a response to climate change and carbon emissions, colleges and universities set up carbon storage science and engineering major to achieve the ambitious goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality (dual carbon) through talent training and scientific research. The background of global carbon dioxide capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) industry, CCUS development strategies of domestic and foreign companies and the demand for talents in CCUS were studied, and the progress of CCUS education and research in foreign colleges and universities introduced. Challenges and suggestions were made by comparing the practice of the first four colleges to set up carbon storage science and engineering major in China. The results show that with great career prospects, carbon storage professionals are in badly need at home and abroad, hence the necessity of carbon storage science and engineering major.
