Effect of depth-of-cut control (DOC) of PDC bits on stick-slip suppression and rate of penetration improvement

  • The demand for oil and gas in China continues to grow, the development of unconventional oil and gas fields continues to increase, the drilling environment is becoming more complex, and stick-slip vibration often occurs, resulting in a decrease in drilling efficiency and economic losses. After a long period of research and development in academia and industry, a series of stick-slip vibration suppression technologies and tools have been used in drilling engineering. Based on the summary and analysis of the development of stick-slip vibration suppression technology, this paper focuses on the PDC bit cutting depth control technology, control equipment structure, principle and field test results, and analyzes these technologies to suppress stick-slip vibration and improve drilling speed. Furthermore, the effect of vibration suppression on the improvement of drilling efficiency is explained by mechanical specific energy.
