Status and research suggestions on the drilling and completion technologies for onshore deep and ultra deep wells in China

Oil and natural gas is currently the main energy for our human society and it influences national economy and people’s livelihood, as well as national security. With the continuous increase of oil & gas exploration and development degree, the demand of deep and ultra deep wells and even deep-seated exploration is steadily on the increase. As well depth gets greater and geological conditions get more complicated, the difficulty of drilling and completion technology gets higher. The important significance, overall status and challenges in the drilling and completion of onshore deep and ultra deep wells in China were illustrated based on the recent progress of the drilling and completion technologies for deep and ultra deep wells. Then, the development direction of the drilling and completion technologies for deep and ultra deep wells was prospected from the perspective of benchmarking international advanced level and supporting oil & gas exploration and development. Finally, several suggestions on technological research and deployment were proposed so as to promote the development of the drilling and completion technologies for deep and ultra deep wells in China.
