Migration and Profle Control Properties of B-PPG in Oil Reservoirs

  • IMigration capacity of is a critical property of profile-control agents for achieving in-dept profile improvement. B-PPG (branched-performed particle gel), a newly developed profile-control agent basing on the traditional PPG, performs increased expansion capacity and enhanced elastic-deformation ability due to the introduction of branched structures, which makes it capable of transporting to depth of reservoirs for improving water-absorption profile. Focusing on this agent, migration and profile-control experiments in porous media were designed to evaluate its microscopic migration and plugging features, in-depth migration and profile control performance under different permeabilities. The results show that B-PPG is more expansive than PPG with the volume/size swelling factor of 47.3/3.6. B-PPG with a greater size than the diameter of a pore, could pass through the pore by elastic deformation, and simultaneously, plug it temporarily and repeatedly in the form of a single particle or the accumulation of multiple particles. Under the matching permeabilities (1.6~3.2 D), B-PPG can migrate to the depth of the model, diverting the liquid flow, as a result, expanding the sweep volume, and finally providing a feasible technical choice for in-depth profile control in heterogeneous reservoirs.
