Fast assessment methods for non-Darcy effect of wells completed in different ways

  • Previous research results show high-speed non-Darcy flow can occur in high-productivity gas wells, high-productivity volatile oil reservoirs and under various other reservoir conditions. Conventional theoretical equations and analytic formulas for high-speed non-Darcy flow are based on open-hole completion without considering the impact of actual completion mode in actual production. The newly developed productivity equation based on binomial expression takes the impact of perforation completion on drainage area into consideration in deriving high-speed non-Darcy productivity equation. Data from one high-productivity well overseas was used to assess the impact of completion on high-speed non-Darcy effect. The research results show perforation completion may generate higher drainage area when the perforation density is over 25 holes/m. Under such circumstance, high-speed non-Darcy effect is less intensive. In conclusion, the impact of completion mode shall be considered during assessment of high-speed non-Darcy effect in near-well zone of actual producers.
