Anti-typhoon emergency technology of deepwater drilling in South China Sea

  • The typhoons on the South China Sea are frequent, develop rapidly, and spread along complex paths. Conventional methods of forecasting and emergency can hardly meet the safety and time-effectiveness requirements of deepwater drilling operation. Considering the characteristics and regularity of typhoons and according to the retrieval and statistics of typhoons by year, strength, landing location, development trend, and sources, an analysis technique of historical and meteorological data about the South China Sea deepwater is established; according to the initial conditions and lateral boundary conditions in early typhoon models, the ECMWF global forecast model is used to establish the early warning technology; with consideration to the features of the South China Sea, the calculation method of safety preparation time for evacuation from the riser recovery operation under different suspension methods is built and a set of emergence measures targeting at the South China Sea is developed to provide successful guidance on the operations to avoid typhoons in deepwater wells in the South China Sea.
