Development status and trend of deepwater oil-gas exploration and development technology

  • The ocean is one of the key replacing areas for the global oil and gas resources, and deepwater will become the main battlefield for future offshore oil and gas exploitation. Deepwater plays an important role in investing exploration anddevelopment, increasing reserves and production in global and will become an important field where major international oil companies will compete to take hold. However, in addition to a huge cost, high project management requirements and other challenges, deepwater exploration and development also face harsh natural and climatic conditions and risks in water depth, low temperature, shallow geological disasters, and operation safety. Thus, deepwater oil and gas exploration and development become an important area that calls for technological innovation. In various areas of expertise, innovative technologies play a key role in cost reduction and efficiency increase and improvement of operational safety. By reasoning the current development of deepwater exploration and development and analyzing five technical challenges in deepwater oil and gas exploration and development, this paper summarizes the automation, submarine-based, multi-functional and innovative progress of deepwater technology.
