Application of TorkBuster to sidetracking of slimhole horizontal well in Well Songshen 9H

  • In order to improve drilling rate in sidetracking of slimholehorizontal well in Qingshen Gasfield and shorten drilling period, research and application has been conducted on the technology of increasing drilling rate by TorkBuster assisted with conventional geosteering power drill. Firstly, analysis was conducted to see if the new assembly had enough strength for drilling, thus preventing fatigue and damage of the drillstring caused by stress concentration; secondly, the TorkBuster pump pressure-displacement back-push equation was used to optimize the drilling parameters; finally, the passing capacity of ?215.9 mm and ?152.4 mm assembly was analyzed as per the principle that the allowable bending radius must be less than the actual bending radius of slim hole/casing, hence realizing safe running of the assembly and generating this technology for increasing drilling rate in slim hole horizontal well by TorkBuster in Qingshen Gasfield, which was successfully used in Well Songshen 9H, providing a new technical approach for accelerating the exploration and development of deep sandy conglomerate gas pools.
