Application of heavyweight additive micromax to Pyay Oilfield in Burma

  • To select out a kind of high-density heavyweight additive for cement slurry favorable for field application and upgrading cementing, properties of several types of heavyweight additives commonly used are analyzed in this paper. Finally,Micromax developed by Elkem Company in Norway is selected as the heavyweight additive for density of cement slurry. In this paper, physical properties and advantages of Micromax are introduced,as well as comparative test is conducted on properties between Micromax and ilmenite powder.According to cement slurry properties data acquired in the lab, compatibility performance test and experimental research on the effect of Micromax addition on rheological properties, stability, and strength of cement slurry are conducted by using water and cement on site.Research shows that comprehensive properties of high-density cement slurry developed by using Micromax are superior to that of barite and iron ores.Micromax features in good stability.High-density cement slurry developed by using it has good rheological properties, adjustable density, right angle coagulation effect, and high strength of cement paste. It is well compatible with extra materials and agents. If there are no dry mixing devices, cement slurry can be added into water.Micromax has been utilized for plugging and cementing operation for five times in PSC-101 and PSC-2 wells in Burma and good application results have been obtained. It has broad prospect for popularization and application.
